A Water Park For Gilroy?!?!?!

OK, so I read in the Gilroy Dispatch that Gilroy may be getting a a water park. Unfortunately, it means Gilroy Gardens will disappear.  :(  I think a water park would be awesome, but getting rid of Bonfante Gardens, ehh I mean GILROY Gardens, would  kinda be a disgrace.

Gilroy Gardens is our local amusement park.  It calls itself a family park, but is mainly focused on people over 6o, and people 10 and under. It has two small roller coasters, a small water play area,  other kiddie type rides and a lot of of beautiful scenery.

A water park would be a great addition to Gilroy. It is often hot in Gilroy, and water parks are just plain fun.The wet, the dry, the slides, the tubes, the screaming, the squealing. It is all part of Summer, and any other season for that matter! Gilroy NEEDS a water park.

Now for the decision. Gilroy Gardens, or a water park. Honestly,  I am to old for Gilroy Gardens, and it slightly bores me. I have also been there a million times. (Both good and bad) A water park would be something new, but I would never go there in Winter. Gilroy Gardens, is considered a safe spot, so I can hang out with my friends there alone. Gilroy Gardens (Bonafante Gardens) Has always been a local park, and is part of home. A water park, is more fun, timeless, ageless, and cools you down in Summer.

If I had to choose, I guess I would choose a water park. That is AFTER gong to Gilroy Gardens like three times more. Well actually Gilroy Gardens because I can just sit there and hang out and ride rides. At a water park, you go to get wet and you have to be wearing a bathing suit, have certain stuff, etc. At Gilroy Gardens you can go, ride rides, not ride rides, just hang out. Well,  don’t really know. It’s a hard decision for me.

Which do you prefer- Amusement, or Water?

No surprise here: Amusement park ALL THE WAY!! I’m not a fan of getting soaked and walking around. Besides, water parks don’t have nearly enough souvenir ride photos! What they SHOULD have done was let the group buy ‘em out last year and put in a full size park. Cool as the carnival trees are, they could still be integrated into a major park.

We have a water park here, I have never been there, unfortunately my son was pretty well grown up by the time they built it. And we haven’t been to even an amusement park in years.

A well designed water park can actually have both features in it. Get involved and attend the planning commission meeting to state your point of view. That is what government is all about!
That way you can have the best of both worlds!

I guess I have to choose amusement park. I am to old to get wet and play in the water all day! Christina thecoffeelady

I would say have both. It’s what’s fair to everyone.

 I would agree with some of the above comments, that both would give everyone the best of both worlds!

It’s a pity there can be more of a combination of old and new…

Would be nice to have both. But if I were to choose one, I’d rather have the amusement park.

I’d prefer a water park for kids. You do need to attend the planning commission meetings for this project though. Let your voice be heard!

I wish we could have both, but the small town of Gilroy doesn’t have enough money. I think I would have to decide amusement park, because there is a small water park/aquatic ccenter, and a community pool in the nearby town Morgan Hill.

For me I would have to choose a park with both rides and water, mostly because I don’t swim in public at all. (personal reasons) but I’m sure for kids a regular water park would probably be more fun as they have tons of time in summer to play.

@Holly: A park with both rides and water would be awesome. They should just add a few water rides to Gilroy Gardens. Or they could make a mini water park inside of Gilroy Gardens. (Similiar to Bommerang Bay in Great America)

Gilroy Gardens reminds me of Cypress Gardens. Lots of the 80+ crowd and the under 10 crowd. Did they have to get rid of one to have the other? They could have added on or chosen a new location for the water park. A few local towns/counties have taken over older parks so they aren’t torn down because the people want them to stay.

Also, unless they are run by a big operation like Disney, Six flags, etc, I find that water parks don’t always last because they are run too cheaply or aren’t maintained health code wise.

Anyway, I am sure the waterpark will do well, but I am a sap when it comes to older parks.

You can never be too old for water park/amusement park! I LOVE THEM ALL. But sometimes I’m too poor, I’m too old.

You know, I’m honestly not sure which I’d prefer, they both have their good points and their bad points.

I like the suggestion of an amusement and water park, that way you get the best of both worlds! We’re about 2 hours from Cedar Point and they have both, but you have to pay for each separately, which stinks!

Sadly the trend lately seems to be “out with the old in with the new”, which is a shame with as bad as the economy is! I also agree that it would be a really good experience if you could go to the planning meetings or even get on the committee, it’s a wonderful experience as well as looking good on a resume

Can’t wait to hear what happens with this!
