SCIENCE CAMP APPROACHES WITH SPEED!!!

The Yosemite Science Camp Meeting was last Friday and it got me very anxious about the trip. We are going the first week of February. (February 2nd through 6th) We will take off during first period class on Monday wearing long pants, warm clothes, and snow boots. It’s a 4 to 5 hour drive depending on weather. We take an hour long brake half way at a fast food place we vote on. Then we get back in the bus and keep driving. When we get out again, we are at the snowy hilltops of Crane Flat at an elevation of 6,200 ft. (Gilroy has an elevation of 200 ft!)

We spend the first 2 days exploring and hiking in Crane Flat. Snowshoeing and Cross Country Skiing  are also possible depending on our level of snow. The last 3 days we will be in Curry Village down to 4,000 ft elevation, hiking, exploring, playing, learning, and souvenir shopping.

In Crane Flat there are 2 big cabins, a girls cabin and a boys cabin.  Each cabin is filled with a few rows of bunk beds, a wood
burning furnace, a bathroom (with several stalls), and a bunch o’ kids. We get to choose who we bunk with, but not who is in out hiking group. That is the teacher’s job.

I am super excited about Yosemite and can’t wait!
